Obituary of Joseph Dahlby

seph A. “Jake “ Dahlby (74) St. Maries resident died Dec. 28, 2009 at the home of his daughter at Colbert , WA . He was b orn July 18, 1935 to Gustave and Alice (Benson) Dahlby at St. Paul, Minn. He grew up at St. Paul. As a young boy, he left home to ride the railroad cars to California to work in the oil fields. On his way there, he made a stop in St. Maries and remembered this area to retire to later in his life. He lived in Long Beach and Wilmington, CA where he worked as a pipefitter and boilermaker for Brown and Root construction in the oil fields. He married Joyce White on Feb. 10, 1976 at Long Beach. In 1981, he moved to Alder Creek, near St. Maries . He continued to work for Brown and Root Construction as a pipefitter in Anacortes, WA. He retired in 2000. He has lived at Colbert, WA for the past 3 months. He enjoyed raising ducks and geese. He also raised horses and Bull Mastiff dogs. He also enjoyed owing classic cars. He is survived by his wife Joyce at Colbert, WA Also surviving are his sons Howard White of Thornton, CO, Larry Joines and Gene White both of St. Maries and Tom White of Los Angeles, CA Also surviving are daughters Karen Brewer and Loretta Joines both of St. Maries and Sandy Dahlby of Colbert, WA There are also 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchidren surviving. He was preceded in death by sons Jerry, Terry and Travis White as well as brothers Kenneth and Robert Dahlby and sister Betty Jo Robbins. Funeral Services will be Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. At Hodge Funeral Home, St. Maries, ID with Pastor Parker McNeill officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
