Obituary of Bert Wesley Powell

Bert W. Powell (63) resident of St. Maries, ID. He was born January 25, 1951 to Orville and Marie (Lemons) Powell at Omak, WA. As a child Bert grew up where ever his fathers air force career took the family. He graduated from Hinkley high school with the class of 1969. As a young man he made his home in Grand Junction, CO. where he worked as a bouncer. He married Becky Paulson in 1973 in Grand Junction and then they relocated to Clarkston , WA. They were later divorced. Bert worked for Omark in Lewiston, ID. for five years and then began a career in tree trimming employed first by Greens Tree Service in Lewiston and later with Asplund. He moved back to Aurora , CO. to help care for his ailing mother before returning to the inland northwest in 2003 and taking a position with Potlatch Corporation at the St. Maries complex as a mill worker where he worked and resided until his death. Bert was a member of the St. Maries Elks lodge. His interests and hobbies included; hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and he was good with his hands at most everything and a hard worker. Bert was also a great and dedicated long time fan of the Denver Broncos and enjoyed getting together with friends to watch football and especially the Super Bowl. Bert is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Brian and Makebia Powell of Reno, NV, and his daughter and son-in-law Nicol and Max Poitra of Great Falls, MT. Also surviving are his brother Curtis Powell of Lewiston, ID., sisters Vivian Morris of Denver, CO. and Valerie Chapman of Aurora, CO. and sister-in-law and her husband Janet and Ed McGuire of St. Maries. There are 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Dakota Powell of St. Maries. Bert was preceded in death by both his parents, brother Ron and his daughter Erika Moran. At Berts request, no services will be held. He will be cremated and his ashes will be joined with his daughters near Clarkston, WA.
