Obituary of Wendell Lewis Matt

Wendell L. Matt Sr. (72) resident of Worley, ID, died July 27, 2015 at his home in Worley following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 6, 1942 to Alexander and Mary (Paul) Matt at Plummer, ID. Wendell grew up in Plummer and graduated from High School at Freeman, WA with the class of 1962. Following graduation, Wendell entered a re-location training program in Los Angeles, CA. Following that, he moved to Seattle, WA to work at an area saw mill. He married Lynn Brown Dec. 31, 1970 at Spokane, WA. They made their home in Plummer, ID Wendell worked in farming and as a ranch hand for Plummer and Tekoa area farmers. He was divorced in 1977. He married Eileen Nault on July 29, 1977 at Rocky Boy, MT. They were married 37 years. Following their marriage, they made their home in Plummer and Worley where Wendell worked for the Coeur d’ Alene Tribal School. In all, Wendell worked 35 years for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe in various departments. He retired in 2012. Wendell enjoyed hunting, riding ATV’s (4-wheeling) and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid San Francisco 49 fan and enjoyed shooting pool. Wendell is survived by his wife Eileen at the family home. His sons Wendell Matt Jr. of Tacoma, WA, Robert Allen Matt of Spokane, WA and Michael Matt of Worley, ID. His daughters Wendelyn Richmond of St. Maries and Roberta Matt of Plummer, ID. Also surviving are his brother Alex Matt of Worley and sister Wanda Matt of Plummer, ID. as well as 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Iona Reeves, Vernita Potter, Audry Barrientos, Roberta Matt Falcon, Donna Matt and step-sister Rose Chalwain. Rosary will be recited Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rose Creek Longhouse, Worley. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, 2015 t 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Mission Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Erickson S.J. celebrant. Interment followed at the Sacred Heart Mission Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends followed services at the Rose Creek Longhouse.
