Gregory Ira LaFrance passed away at his home on Sunday morning November 22nd. He was born in Seattle on December 30, 1954 and was raised in Kirkland, WA and Kalispell, MT. He served in the Navy from 1974-1978 aboard the U.S.S. Long Beach; a destroyer escort for the U.S.S. Enterprise during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the Navy, he was a navigator for NOAA. He then pursued his life long love of woodworking. He was well known as an old-world craftsman, building a custom log home from logs he harvested and hand peeled from his property. In 2005, his home won “Log Home of the Year” for Log Home Builders Association. It can be viewed on their website under “Student Homes, Greg’s Southwest Style”. Greg is survived by the love of his life, Adrienne Darr, his wife of 20 years; stepsons Alexander and Adam Hunter; mother Ruth LaFrance; brother Rick LaFrance and his wife Marita; sister Patti Johnson, her husband Gary, their son Erik and his fiancé Kelsie Ball. His father Bill “Sweet William” LaFrance precedes him in death. Greg made his home in Duvall, WA for 25 years before relocating to Plummer, ID, where he lived for the past 10 years. Greg was a very kind hearted, caring man that was always the first to offer anyone anything. He possessed an acerbic and sharp wit. He was the life of the party. He could talk to anyone about anything. He prided himself on his down-home 7 course breakfasts. Greg is loved by everyone who has ever met him and will be missed forever by those who love him. His personality was unique in every way and was affectionately known by his family and many friends as “Goob”. A celebration of his life will be held at his home at 215 Haynes Ln, Plummer, ID beginning at 2 P.M., Saturday the 28th. If you would like to bring food and drinks to the celebration, it would be welcomed and appreciated.
