Obituary of Robert E. Lust

Robert E. Lust (90) lifetime St. Maries resident, died Feb. 3, 2016 at his home in St. Maries. He was born March 26, 1925 to Henry and Katherine (Schuermann) Lust at St. Maries. Bob grew up in St. Maries and graduated from St. Maries High School with the Class of 1943 where he played football. He enlisted in the U.S. Army following graduation and served in Italy. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to St. Maries. Bob went to work for the St. Maries Lumber company as a millworker. The mill was destroyed by fire in the early 1960’s. Bob went to work for several area mills as well as the U.S. Forest Service. When Potlatch took over the new plywood mill, Bob returned to work for them. He retired in 1990. Bob never married and never had a driver’s license. He walked everywhere he needed to go. Residents of St. Maries would see him walking and offer him rides to go where he needed. Bob was a fixture at St. Maries High School sporting events. He always sat on the right side of the bleachers in the top row. Bob was an avid bowler and enjoyed participating and watching the competition at the bowling alley. Jerry and Carol Sextant cared for him in the last years of his life and he became part of their family. Carol set him up with a land line telephone as well as a computer and taught him how to use them. He enjoyed going on line to learn more about what he enjoyed reading. He was a history buff and still had a terrific memory. Bob was the last living member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by brother’s Carl, Clarence, Barry and Ted Lust and sisters Frieda Leonard and Ella Walls. He is survived by 2 nieces and 5 nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at a date and time to be announced in late spring or early summer. Visit his online memorial and sign his guest book at www.hodgefuneralhome.com.
