Obituary of Steven Gary Pock

Steven “Gary” Pock (69) long time resident of Fernwood, ID died July 27, 2016. He was born May 22, 1947 to Robert and Marjorie (Patterson) Pock at Hayward, CA. Gary moved with his family to Concord, CA where he grew up and graduated from High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966. The following year, he transferred into the Army National Guard of California. Gary also served in the Army Reserves. He moved to Lake Tahoe and worked in the Parks Dept. where he became interested in sign carving. A friend of his moved to Fernwood, ID and talked Gary into coming there to look at property. He loved the area, so he purchased the property and relocated to Fernwood. While Gary was visiting his brother in Concord, CA he met Dusty Shipley in the swimming pool at the apartment complex where his brother lived. The couple fell in love and on June 26, 1980 the couple joined their lives together, and Dusty moved to Fernwood with Gary. Gary continued to make signs professionally. He was a talented man who carved Harley-Davidson figures, plaques, and signs; and he and Dusty traveled around the US selling his goods. The couple collected t-shirts from every trip they went on including some of their favorite trips to Sturgis, S.D. and Redwood, CA. Gary also enjoyed camping, fishing, and working in the yard. Gary is survived by his wife Dusty at the family home in Fernwood, ID; his son’s Christian Knarr of Alaska and David (Monique) Pock; daughters Amie (Joe) Strongone of Livermoore, CA, Dusty (Rick) Elliot of Las Vegas, NV, and Catey (Heath) Moen of Fernwood, ID. He is also survived by his mother Marjorie Burge of Athens, GA; brothers Robert (Esther) Pock of Lincoln, CA and Danny (Jenny) Pock of Albany, CA; sister Christine (Buddy) Sims of Walkinville, GA; 10 grandchildren, 2 nieces, and 1 nephew. Gary is preceded in death by his father Robert Pock, father and mother in-law Michael and Rose Shipley, and 3 grandchildren. A memorial service will be August 20, 2016 - 11:00 am at the Upriver Bible Church in Fernwood, ID. A potluck gathering of family and friends will follow the service at Gary and Dusty’s home in Fernwood, ID.
