Obituary of Lulu Duggan

Lulu Jolene Duggan (79) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at her home on November 11, 2016. She was born in a house on a hill in Kamiah, ID to Richard and Clara Mendenhall on June 1, 1937. Lulu left school at an early age to help take care of her siblings. She was cooking by the age of 4. The oldest of 18 children, she was a big help to her mama and she even helped deliver some of her siblings. In 1956 Lulu married Richard Steed in Lima, OH. The couple made their home there; however the marriage ended in divorce and Lulu relocated to Idaho. She met Donald Duggan in Clarkston, WA and the couple were married on August 6, 1960 in Lewiston, ID. Work brought the family to Calder, ID and then onto Superior, MT and Missoula, MT. Lulu became a Certified Nurse Assistant and worked in some of the nursing homes in Missoula. In 1975 the family moved back to Calder, ID, and then moved to the Harrison Flats in 1978. Lulu became a home maker taking care of her children and the farm they lived on. Donald died in 2004, so Lulu relocated into St. Maries, ID. Lulu loved to can specifically her sauerkraut. She made bread and loved to bake. She was famous to her grandchildren for her sourdough pancakes. Often times she would crochet hats for babies and little ones to donate to families in need. She loved flowers and had a beautiful rock garden. She also had a vegetable garden the size of an acre, and she loved to take care of it. Lulu loved every one of her farm animals including the goats that she would watch for hours and her peacock. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved her children and grandchildren very much. Lulu is survived by her daughters Carol Collins (Ray Lockett) of St. Maries, ID and Sheila (Brian) Long of LaClede, ID; son Jimmy (Ronda) Duggan of St. Maries; sisters Cornelia “Connie” (Neil) Bruin, Clara “Dude” (Dan) Shipley, Carolyn, Josie Keeland, Sadie (Allen) Luby, Buellah (Pat) Storr, Rhonda Boyd; brothers Lewis (Barb) Mendenhall, Clifford (Candy) Mendenhall, and Martin Mendenhall. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Tommy Steed, and brothers Richard “Dicky” Mendenhall, Charles “Skip” Mendenhall, Rocky Mendenhall, Herbie Mendenhall, Dwight Neil Mendenhall, Joseph Mendenhall. A memorial service is planned for Saturday November 19, 2016 at 2:00 at Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries, ID.
