Obituary of Lyle Norman Miller

Lyle Norman Miller (75) longtime resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at his home on January 9, 2017. He was born to Norman and Jean (Summers) Miller on August 7, 1941 in Chewelah, WA. Lyle attended elementary school through the 5th grade in Chewelah before moving to St. Maries, ID. While in high school Lyle worked for Hughes’ Ace Hardware, and dated his girlfriend Jeanne Whitehead. He graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1959. Following high school, Lyle enlisted into the United States Navy where he was trained as an Electrician. He and Jeanne married on February 24, 1962. Jeanne stayed home in St. Maries while Lyle was stationed overseas. The couple had their daughter Yvonne in 1964. When Lyle was honorably discharged after 4 years of service, he returned to St. Maries and went to work for Potlatch Corporation. After a few years the couple relocated to Chehalis, WA where he went to work for Bank Check Supply. Lyle loved and missed snow catting in the mountains around St. Maries so the family returned to St. Maries where their daughter Diana was born in 1976. Lyle returned to Potlatch Corporation where he became a Foreman. At one time, Lyle bought an airplane, and was working on a pilot’s license. He used to take his grandchildren for adventures in the plane although it never left the ground. Over the years he performed numerous jobs working for The Paperhouse, his own business The Shop, BCH, and BCSO. He retired in the Fall of 2011 at the age of 70. Lyle was an Eagles member and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bird hunting, riding his 4 wheeler, tinkering around on his tractor, very thick chocolate milkshakes, but most of all he loved his family time and spending time with his grandchildren. Most recently he started enjoying Facebook and his family would enjoy seeing his “likes” and “shares”. He was a “Jack of all Trades” who kept busy all of the time. Lyle will be missed for his famous peanut brittle, endless teasing, harmless flirting, and a smart ass personality. Lyle is survived by his wife Jeanne at the family home; his daughters Yvonne (Ernie) Horton of St. Maries, ID and Diana (Jeremy) Adams of Hayden, ID; his brother Chuck Hanley of Kellogg, ID; 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son Brian Miller; brother David Hanley; brother in-law Jim Whitehead; sisters in-law Nancy Wadsworth and Dianne Hendrix, and granddaughter Jennifer Horton. A memorial service will be planned in the spring.
