On January 16, 1957 he married Judith Lee Vogel in St. Maries.  She quit her job as a paralegal and joined her husband on his worldly travels, and created a home for their 8 children.  Following his retirement from the service in 1972, the couple moved their family to St. Maries where Phil began a second career working as the city foreman.  He was employed for over 20 years with the city taking pride in his work and keeping the city running smoothly.  Phil retired in 1997. He & Judy moved to Hayden, ID in 2010.  He & Judy loved spending time with their children, grandchildren, and Bichon dogs Misha & Beau.  Phil & Judy were married for 56 years before she passed away in late 2012.
