Obituary of Jackson Frank Safrit

Jackson Frank Safrit (80) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away on March 26, 2018.  He was born to Claude and Fannie-Lee Safrit on November 24, 1937 in Shawnee, OK.  He grew up in the Sacramento and Modesto, CA areas, attending Downey High School in Modesto. 

Following high school, Jack enlisted in the US Navy in 1954, and served on USS Talladega.  He was honorably discharged in 1958 and returned to Modesto.  Jack started working as a butcher at the New Deal Market.  On December 10, 1960, Jack married Linda Langford in Ceres, CA and they managed the Dunes Motel when Disneyland opened in Anaheim, CA.  After their adventure in Anaheim, the couple then made their home in Modesto, CA.  Jack went to work for Mission Linen Supply.  His job took him to Fresno, Morro Bay, and Carson City, NV. In September of 1966, they were blessed with their son, Mark.   In 1980 Jack received his AA degree from Modesto Jr. College and went to work for Hydro Electric Co in the purchasing department.  In 1989 he began working for Dutra Construction in purchasing department.  Jack was instrumental in the re-construction of the Bay Area Bridge after its collapse during the earthquake of 1989.  In 1993 the family moved to St. Maries, ID and purchased Ray’s Meats and opened St. Maries Sausage Company.  Jack and his family operated the business until spring 2001 when he retired. 

Jack enjoyed traveling especially going on Cruises.  Mexico, Alaska and the Caribbean, were some of his favorite destinations.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a member and a Deacon of the St. Maries Assembly of God Church and was a member of St. Maries American Legion Post 25. 

Jack is survived by his wife Linda at the family home and son Mark (Sharon) Safrit of St. Maries, ID.  Also surviving are his sister Joyce (Pat ) Patire of Modesto, CA and 3 grandchildren – Bethany (Ethan) Sanchez, Wesley Safrit and Audrey Safrit.  He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Claudine Caviness.

A memorial service will be Friday April 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Assembly of God Church in St. Maries, ID.  A gathering of family and friends to share a meal will follow.
