Obituary of Larry Jansen

George “Larry” Jansen (83) passed away at Schneidmiller Hospice House on January 20, 2025.  He was born to Herman George Jansen and Velma Wroe on August 7, 1941, in Bendji, MN.  Larry grew up in Montana in the Billings and Livingston areas. His father Herman made his award-winning ice cream for all of Yellowstone National Park.

Following high school, Larry earned is MA Seminary Degree from Dallas Theological Seminary College.  This would be a lifelong passion of his.  Larry also proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1964.  When he was honorably discharged, Larry worked at the Yellowstone National Forest Post Office.  In his wide and diverse working career, Larry also proudly served his community as a Criminal Investigator for the Denver Police Department.

One of Larry’s best memories to tell is of marrying his beloved wife Janet Lee Vitcenda on April 16, 1991.  They moved to Alaska where Larry and Jan fueled their passion for the outdoors.  They were avid outdoorsmen enjoying fishing, hunting, hiking, and traveling the world together in love.  They concurred the Teton Mountains and the Swiss Alps.  Once retired they moved to Montana.  In August of 2024 they moved to St. Maries, ID to live with their oldest daughter for care.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife Janet Lee Jansen; daughters and sons in law Adriane and Brad Michael and Onnah and Andre Lucian; grandchildren Hunter Overly, Brianna Peters, Chase Michael, Leah Jansen, and Shylia, Lykin, Ezery, and Alarik Lucian.

Military Honors will be presented by American Legion Post #25 and the Fairchild Honor Guard on February 7, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Veteran’s Memorial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
