Obituary of Stephen R. Lindsay
Stephen R. Lindsay (74) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at his home on January 21, 2025. He was born to Gordon and Virginia (Imbler) Lindsay on May 25, 1950, in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. Stephen grew up in the Coeur d’ Alene and Post Falls areas attending schools in both districts.
Following high school, Stephen went to California for work. He returned to North Idaho in 1969 when the snow was “as high as a fence post” and went to work in the woods as a logger. Stephen married Susan Miller, and the couple had 3 boys making their home in Coeur d’ Alene. After 10 years of marriage, it ended in divorce, however the couple became good friends.
Stephen spent time in Post Falls, and then moved to Harrison, ID off of Thompson Lake. At this time he was working for NW Timber, Diamond Forest Products, then he partnered up with Rich Stewart establishing a pawn shop in Post Falls. The business partners later purchased the neighboring gas station. They ran these businesses for several years before selling them. Stephen moved to Spirit Lake and went to work for the city. He then joined his son Tony in Alaska and went to work for him driving dump truck for a rock pit. Stephen also spent time at the Chilco Mill, there wasn’t a job or piece of equipment he couldn’t run in a mill. Due to his health, Stephen retired in 2003, and in 2006 he moved to St. Maries to be close to his family.
In his younger days, Stephen enjoyed hound hunting, fishing, camping, and getting firewood. When life slowed down for Stephen, he enjoyed daily cruises and drives with his beloved dog, and spending time watching his great-grandchildren.
Stephen is survived by his children Charles “Chuck” Lindsay and Tony (Ellie) Lindsay all of St. Maries and Brenda Lindsay of Post Falls; step children Brandy, Nichole, and Travis; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Chris Lindsay, and brothers Gary and Rodney Lindsay.
