Obituary of Marion Edward Lauer
Marion Edward Lauer was born September 12, 1944, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood, ID to Anthony and Ella (Davis) Lauer. He was the 3rd child of a family of 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls. He grew up on a small ranch near Ferdinand, ID and attended Ferdinand schools through the 8th grade. Marion graduated from Prairie High School in Cottonwood in 1964. He played basketball in high school for Prairie.
After high school, Marion logged and went to work sawing in Elk City. He moved to St. Maries in 1965 working with Orrin Chapman Logging for Burkland Lumber Company. He also logged and slashed to clear timber for the Dworshak Reservoir and many other local contractors.
In 1971 Marion married Ellen Grubham, they later divorced. In the mid 1970’s he went to Alaska and logged on Afognak Island and later went to work for Silver Bay Logging. When Marion returned from Alaska, he bought his own equipment and logged for himself. When he left the woods, he worked the last 5 years of his career for Stimson Lumber.
Marion was an avid hunter and firearms collector. He enjoyed politics and was a proud Trump supporter. He was glued to the news all day and got up at 4 am the net morning and called his old logger buddies to discuss it. He loved going to Plummer for lunch with his friend “Hollywood the Wop” and going to Emida with his friends to eat at Drifters. He was a member of the Catholic Church and he went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 2, 2025 peacefully at home.
Marion is survived by his brothers Robert and Donald and sisters Edna and Edith; numerous nieces and nephews and several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Mike and Ronald, stepson Terry Grubham, and step daughter Cherie Burch.
A Memorial Service will be planned this Spring and announced at a later date.
