Obituary of Dick Imes
Richard “Dick” Imes (86) longtime Upriver resident passed away peacefully on the Moore Family Ranch near Emida, ID surrounded by some of his closest friends. He was born to James and Alma Imes on September 9, 1938, in South Point, OH. Dick grew up in Ironton, OH and graduated from Rock Hill High School with the class of 1956.
Following high school, Dick went to work in a refinery for Ashland Oil. He spent his whole career there and took early retirement when the company was acquired by Marathon Petroleum. In 1999 Dick moved from Ironton to Fernwood, ID where he found some property, and fell in love with the small community. He established a home and built his dream barn on that property creating a small farm where he had horses, donkeys, chickens, goats, dogs, and barn cats.
Having a passion for horses, Dick became a member of the Upriver Saddle Club and helped wherever needed. He was always helping out the local kids at the arena, and he was well loved by everyone involved with the saddle club. Dick also became a member of the Eagles and Elks Lodges in St. Maries. When he wasn’t helping or volunteering for someone or something, he enjoyed playing on his tractor and haying season. It became his favorite time of year. He loved to work in the hay fields with his friend Ron Moore. They also spent time checking cattle and gathering the cows on the ranch. Dick was a simple man who also enjoyed taking care of his farm animals, hunting, fishing - specifically trips to Oregon, and having a good conversation with a drink in hand.
Dick is survived by his son and daughter in-law Jim and Kathy Imes of Proctorville, OH; sister Jeanne Coakley of Columbus, OH; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings John Imes, Joanne Imes, and Mary Ferera.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Dick’s life will be on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Noon at the Elks Lodge in St. Maries, ID.
