William “Bill” Cecil Peet, aged 74, died at his home on May 23, 2025 in St. Maries, ID. He was born to William G. and Mildred Ann Olson Peet on June 11, 1950, in Kuna, ID. Bill’s parents were members of the LDS church, so the family moved around building churches in his childhood. The eldest of three, he grew up with his sister Joan and brother Truman in St. Maries, Lisle, IL and Washington state, graduating from Lisle High School with the class of 1969.
Following high school Bill held a few odd jobs before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served during the Vietnam war, forging lifelong friendships with his shipmates on the USS George K. MacKenzie. He was honorably discharged in 1973.
Bill was a masterful woodworker, adorning our and many friends’ homes over the years with hand-crafted beauty that few could match. He also loved antiques, fishing, camping and road trips.
Bill fell in love with and married Lori Ann Musselman in a private historical chapel in Oxnard, CA in October 1996. He met his match in Lori. They lived an adventurous life, spending 10 years living aboard a boat in Channel Islands Harbor. Being on the water was heaven on Earth to Bill, having previously raced sailboats as well. Before that, he dotingly raised his children Alison and Billy in Oxnard with his former wife Mignonne. He spent nearly his entire career working at Chaparral Construction as a heavy equipment operator.
In 2011, Bill and Lori retired and moved to St. Maries, ID to slow down and enjoy a quiet life together, away from those pesky Californians. Bill leaves behind a life crafted with love, loyalty and a sharp wit that was admired, and will be sorely missed, by his close family and friends.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife Lori; devoted children Alison Spring Peet (John) of Oxnard, CA; William L. Peet (Andrea) Peet of Gilbert, AZ, and their children Brandon, Amanda, Nichol and Dustin; siblings Joan Larson of San Tan Valley, AZ and Truman (Sandy) Peet of Houston, TX; great-grandchild Haylee; and many equally loved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Gene Peet and Lois Baldwin, as well as his best cat Olson.
Military honors will be presented at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, ID on July 19, 2025 at 12:00 PM. Following honors there will be a gathering of family and friends to share a meal at the Elks Lodge. You may visit his online tribute at hodgefuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, pour yourself a cold one, drink a toast to Bill, and tell a loved one a funny (preferably off-color) joke.
Rest easy, daddy-o. We’ll miss you
