Roy Dana Williams (72) longtime Plummer, ID resident, passed away on June 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to John and Hortense Williams on August 4, 1952, in Spokane, WA. At the age of 3, Roy’s father died, and his mother raised he and his siblings on her own. From an early age, Roy farmed and raised animals to put food on the table. He attended school in Plummer and graduated from Plummer High School in 1970 where he was active in 4-H and FFA.
Following high school, Roy continued to farm until 1972. It was then he enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps. Roy served active duty for 6 years, and 23 in total counting his time in the reserves. He retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sergeant.
After Roy returned home from active duty, he married Jan, the mother of his 3 children, and they made their home near Plummer. The marriage ended in divorce in 1998, but Roy and Jan maintained a great relationship for their children. Roy was then blessed with love a second time when he started dating his neighbor Earlene Richmond. The two had been friends for many years, extending friendly Sunday calls for 6 years before he asked her out on a date. They dated for a year before marrying at the Hitching Post in Coeur d’ Alene, ID on June 19, 2009.
Roy farmed for several local farmers in the area for most of his life. He also spent 23 years at Wilbur Ellis in Oakesdale before declining health forced him into retirement. If it wasn’t for that, he would still be working since farming wasn’t necessarily a job to him, it was a way of life. Work was life, but Roy did take time to enjoy a few other things. He was a simple man, who loved being at home. At home you could find him gardening or tinkering on his 1940’s style tractor. Nobody could convince him to buy a new one, and there should be something said about his mechanical skills that he kept a tractor that old running in good condition. Although Roy rarely ever traveled, he did go on an unforgettable trip to Mardi Gras in New Orleans and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. He and Earlene went on Civil War tours, and Roy was able to go shrimping with a Cajun friend in the bayou.
Roy is survived by his wife Earlene at their home in Plummer; children Bradley (Susan) Williams of Rosalia, WA, Kimberly (David) Campbell of Plummer, ID, and Lisa (Ryan) Fuchs of Plummer, ID; brother Joe (Kazumi) Williams of Potlatch, ID; sister Rae Hodge of Lewiston, ID; grandchildren Surrenady Alires, Jadin Campbell, Emma Fuchs (at the time of his death), Brooklyn Campbell, Allyvia Fuchs, and Madi Campbell; mother of his children Jan Williams Miller; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Lee Williams.
Military Honors will be presented at a graveside service for Roy on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, ID. A Potluck Celebration of Life will be on June 22, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Farmington City Park in Farmington, WA.
