Timothy Dean Powell (64) resident of Calder, ID passed away at the Schneidmiller Hospice House on September 24, 2025. He was born to Richard and Elsie (Spray) Powell on April 15, 1961, in St. Maries, ID. Tim attended school in Avery and St. Maries. At the age of 17 he decided to leave high school to go work in the woods.

After working a few years for Larry Ragan, Tim worked for various loggers throughout the St. Maries area. In 1989 Tim moved to Alaska where he also logged for several of the local loggers. He returned to the St. Maries area living near the Big Eddy. Tim’s claim to fame, however, was working for Columbia Helicopters. This was his most proud moment in his career, and he enjoyed sharing stories about cutting timber for them, even jumping from the helicopters that took him in and out of the jobs. An accident in the woods left him with a broken neck, and after several more years of trying to work with his injuries, he was unable to do so any longer.

Tim was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He had a knack for finding elk and was extremely talented when it came to hunting them. He was also a good cook and loved to feed people. If you left his home hungry, it was your own fault. Most of the people who met Tim instantly liked him, and he was always willing to help his friends and neighbors, even serving as a volunteer firefighter for Calder. Tim had many interesting experiences and loved to tell stories about his adventures and the people he met. No one could tell a story like Tim. 

Tim is survived by his siblings Rick (Linda) Powell of St. Maries, ID, Jean (Scott) Dittman of Calder, ID, Robin (Jerry) Sines of St. Maries, ID, and Erin Ham of Lewiston, ID; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. A potluck gathering to celebrate Tim’s life will be on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 3:00 pm at the Calder School.
