Dear Uncle Sam, With deep love and gratitude in our hearts, we remember him as a great teacher, a faithful helper, a strong supporter, and a caring brother in Christ. He was the very first person to visit the first Bhutanese refugee family who arrived in Spokane. With a warm heart, he welcomed them into fellowship and helped them find the right spiritual home. From that day forward, he became a pillar of love and encouragement to the Bhutanese brethren. Uncle Sam faithfully went to the Spokane Airport to welcome almost every Bhutanese refugee family who arrived in Spokane. His smile, his warm handshake, and his open heart made each newcomer feel accepted and loved. He did not just welcome people he embraced them as family in Christ. He was also the one who started weekly Nepali Bible reading house to house of Bhutanese brethren every week. Through those precious gatherings, we learned so much from his teaching. His words strengthened our faith and grounded us in the Scriptures. I still keep some of his teachings with me today they remain a blessing and encouragement to my life. He opened his heart and his hands to help many Bhutanese refugee brethren, not only in Spokane but also in Nepal, Bhutan, and India. We heard how he even gave his personal car to a Bhutanese family to use until they were able to purchase their own. What a generous and loving heart he had for the believers. We still remember how he immediately joined his helping hands by sending a large financial gift to India to save a newborn baby whose hope of survival was very small. Because of his kindness and support, that baby received treatment and recovered. That family was deeply thankful to Uncle Sam, and so are we. Whenever new Bhutanese brethren faced problems or challenges, almost everyone received his guidance, encouragement, and practical help. He was always there. We truly miss him. I am sorry to post this tribute late, as I had been searching online to find the obituary and finally found it. We are comforted knowing that he is now in glory with the Lord. One day, we will see him again face to face in Heaven. May God bless his family with peace and comfort. In Christ’s love, Laxman and Family Spokane

I loved Sam and Donna. They were my second parents. Sam was inspirational. He knew his Bible and loved the Lord. Besides my father, Sam was my spiritual role model for over 60 years. He is home now where he always wanted to be—with the Lord. We have all been blessed by his presence. Rest in peace.
