Christopher M. Kelley Obituary

Christopher M. Kelley, age 43, beloved resident of Fernwood, Idaho, passed away on May 2, 2026. He was born on January 22, 1983, in Fernwood to Mike and Marianne Kelley.

Chris spent his younger years growing up in the Fernwood area. He attended school at Upriver before his family later moved to St. Maries. He graduated from St. Maries High School with the Class of 2001. During his high school years, Chris worked as a shop hand for Danielson Logging, learning the value of hard work early in life.

Following graduation, Charlie Ashmead encouraged Chris to pursue diesel mechanics, and with his natural mechanical ability, he attended school in Pocatello, Idaho. Chris later moved to Stevens Pass, Washington, where he worked winters at the ski resort and spent summers working construction. Those years fit him well — surrounded by mountains, snow, and the outdoor lifestyle he loved so much.

Eventually, Chris returned home to St. Maries and went back to logging. Though the demanding work took a toll on his body over the years, his determination and willingness to work hard never faded. Later, he went to work alongside Jack Ellinwood building homes, where his talent truly shined. Together they built some of the area’s most beautiful and modern homes. Chris took great pride in his craftsmanship, and those who worked beside him knew he had an eye for detail and a natural ability to create things with his hands. He genuinely loved the work and was exceptionally good at it.

Chris was an outdoorsman through and through. He loved snowboarding and embraced winter with excitement, especially when it meant snowmobiling and spending time in the mountains. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, four-wheeling, riding his side-by-side, and watching races at the Fossil Bowl. Some of his happiest moments were spent outdoors with friends, family, and his beloved dogs by his side.

More than anything, Chris will be remembered for the kind of person he was. He was known as nothing but a genuinely nice guy, someone with a contagious smile, an easy laugh, and a heart that connected naturally with people. He was liked and loved by nearly everyone who met him. Even while quietly carrying struggles with depression, Chris continued to show kindness, friendship, and warmth to those around him. His passing is a heartbreaking reminder that some of the kindest souls often fight battles unseen by others.

Chris leaves behind his mother Marianne Kelley of St. Maries, ID and his son Emry Cadman of Wenatchee, WA. Also surviving are numerous cousins, countless friends, and all those whose lives were made brighter simply by knowing him.

Although there will be no services, you may leave Chris’ family condolences at hodgefuneralhome.com.

“May he be remembered not for the struggles he carried, but for the kindness he gave, the laughter he shared, and the smile that so many will never forget.”
