Catherine M. Anderson Obituary
Catherine M. Anderson, 80, lovingly known as Cathy, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Cathy was born on May 16, 1946, in Arkansaw, Wisconsin to Reuben and Dorothy Johnson. During her younger years, her family moved several times before eventually settling in Orofino, Idaho when she was about eight years old. She was raised on a farm surrounded by cows, horses, and the simple country life she would always hold close to her heart.
As a teenager, Cathy later went to live with Myrt and Roy Cady in Fernwood. She attended St. Maries High School and worked at the Fernwood Café. It was there she met the love of her life, Jim, charming him by serving him chocolate milkshakes after work and quickly sweeping him off his feet. After finishing school, the couple married on August 17, 1963 at the Hitching Post in Coeur d'Alene and together built a beautiful life in Fernwood.
Cathy devoted her life to caring for her family and home. She stayed home to raise her children and was the steady heart behind countless practices, games, school events, and activities, always making sure her children were where they needed to be. She later became just as dedicated to supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, faithfully attending their sporting events and cheering them on with pride.
She served as a Bluebird leader and gave endlessly to her community. Cathy was an avid volunteer at the Fernwood Senior Center, where her many hours of service earned her a Presidential Volunteer Award. She lived a simple life, never asking for much, but giving so much of herself to others. Her kindness, warmth, and gentle heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Cathy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading romance novels, putting puzzles together, playing bingo, and watching soap operas, especially the beloved Days of Our Lives. She was also a devoted fan of Elvis Presley and treasured her collection of vinyl records and memorabilia. In her younger years, she loved bowling, tending to her flowers and garden, canning the bounty she raised.
Her family will forever cherish memories of Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas Eve gatherings made special by Cathy’s loving touch. She especially treasured baking Christmas treats with her great-grandchildren, and her famous chocolate chip cookies became a family favorite that no one could quite duplicate.
Above all else, Cathy’s family wants her to be remembered as one of the kindest people in the world. A woman whose love was unconditional, whose door was always open, and whose presence made life feel safe and warm.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Jim, at their home in Fernwood, ID; children, Kenny (Tricia) Anderson of Fernwood, ID, Rob (Mercia) Anderson of Deary, ID, and Darla (Kevin “Bubba”) Wilkinson of Potlatch, ID; sibling Bob Pederson of Orofino, ID, John (Rhonda) Pederson of Orofino, ID, Linda (Dave) Groth of Plummer, ID, and Rose (Terry) Eerie of Elk, WA; grandchildren Evan (Tabi) Dole, Brittnie(Jared) Robertson, Brad (Kendra) Anderson, Ashlee (Kenny) Robbins, and Dylan Anderson; 7 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way; numerous nieces and nephews. Cathy is also survived by her sister from another mother, Pat Lewis. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Rick Pederson.
A graveside service will be held on June 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery. A potluck lunch will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the CAF Building in Fernwood.
