Carol Carol Sherrard Obituary
Velma Carol Sherrard, a lifelong resident of the St. Maries area, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, at the age of 91.
Carol was born on September 11, 1934, in St. Joe City, near St. Maries, Idaho, to Robert and Irene Manning. Following the passing of her father, Robert, she was lovingly adopted and raised by Bert Werdell. She spent her childhood on the Scott Ranch, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors and the simple joys of country life.
She attended St. Maries High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. Following high school, Carol began working at JCPenney in St. Maries. Through Floyd's sister, she met the love of her life, Floyd Sherrard. They were married on March 22, 1954, at the Lutheran Church in St. Maries and built a wonderful life together, welcoming their daughter, Carolyn.
Carol devoted her early years to being a loving wife and stay-at-home mother. Once Carolyn began school, she held several jobs before beginning what became a long and fulfilling career with the United States Postal Service. She faithfully served her community for nearly four decades before retiring.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures—tending her garden, sewing, and watching the birds that visited her yard. A devoted animal lover, Carol had a special place in her heart for cats, often taking in strays and making sure they were fed, cared for, and loved.
Above all else, Carol treasured her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with those she loved. Her unconditional love, kindness, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on every generation of her family.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Carolyn and Richard Crowe of St. Maries; her brother, Lee Werdell of Arizona; her granddaughter, Anngela and Mike Appel; her great-grandchildren, Bryant and Jordan Appel, Tony and Alexa Appel, and Kyle Appel; and her cherished great-great-grandchildren, Braxton, Bryden, and Gracie Appel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents, Bert and Irene Werdell; and her siblings, Doris, Shirley, Nadine, and Robert.
Carol will be remembered for her quiet strength, unwavering devotion to her family, her compassionate heart for animals, and the kindness she shared so freely with everyone she met. Her gentle presence, warm smile, and loving spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Graveside services will be announced at a later date. Family and friends will be notified once arrangements have been finalized.
