Matthew David Green, 45, passed away unexpectedly on August 9, 2026, while doing something he loved spending time at the Fossil Bowl racetrack.

Matt was born June 5, 1981, in St. Maries, Idaho, to James and Patricia Green. He was born and raised in St. Maries and, from an early age, had a love for anything with a motor. Dirt bikes, snow catting, trucks, cars—if it was loud, fast, muddy, or could be taken apart, Matt was interested. 

Over the years, Matt worked for Regulus Stud Mills, Inc., DLM Shake Company, and St. Maries Saw and Cycle. He also tried his hand at owning his own business, opening Mex Express, a taco shack where he served delicious, authentic Mexican food. Matt was a phenomenal cook and could prepare a meal like a chef, something his family and friends were always happy to benefit from.

He later worked for St. Maries Logging and St. Maries Excavation before returning to St. Maries Saw and Cycle. Matt eventually went to work for Tractor Supply Company in Coeur d'Alene. After being promoted to a team lead position in Kellogg, he transferred to the Kellogg store.

One of the greatest chapters of Matt's life began when he finally convinced Solitaire Lounsbury to give him a chance. Matt had been pursuing her for quite some time before they had their first date on July 4, 2024. From that day forward, the two were nearly inseparable. Together they blended their children and created a family that meant everything to Matt. They moved to Smelterville, ID in October 2025 and were married on December 3, 2025.  

For all his rough-and-tumble ways, Matt was a big teddy bear with an incredibly tender heart. His family and friends always came first. He loved camping with his wife and children, fishing, kayaking, motorcycle riding, getting muddy, petting his cat peaches, and loved spending time with his wife and children. He enjoyed searching for crystals and pretty rocks, cruising with his music turned up loud, and anything involving an engine. Matt was always ready for another adventure—and usually preferred the smaller crowds and the freedom of being outdoors.

Matt could cook like a chef, tear things apart just to see how they worked, find an adventure where someone else might see an ordinary day, and make plenty of trouble along the way. But underneath it all was a man who loved deeply. He loved his wife, his children, his family, his friends, and his animals with his whole heart. Those fortunate enough to know that softer side of Matt knew just how big that heart really was.

Matt is survived by his loving wife, Solitaire Lounsbury-Green at their home in Smelterville, Idaho; his children and blended family, Russell Rose, Breken Green, Cameron Smith, Aaliyah Smith, Shelby Green, Zeak Haning, and Natalya Haning; his mother, Patricia Green of St. Maries; his brothers, Michael Green of St. Maries and Russell (Theresa) Green of Spokane, Washington; his adopted brothers, Troy (Stephanie) Wise, and Casey (Danielle) Sutterlin; his cat, Peaches; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Green; several grandparents; and his beloved fur babies, Josie and Zeus.

Matt's life was far too short, but it certainly wasn't quiet. He lived loudly, loved fiercely, cooked well, played hard, and left his mark on the people fortunate enough to call him family or friend. The sound of an engine, music turned up a little too loud, a muddy road, a beautiful rock found along the way, or a really good meal will forever bring with it a little reminder of Matt.
