Obituary of Yvonne Marie Spicer

Yvonne Marie Spicer (63) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at her home on October 25, 2023.  She was born to Vincent and Maria (Quiroz) Nugent Jr. on October 10, 1960, in Fort Walton Beach, FL.  Having a father serving our country, Yvonne grew up in a few different places spending most of her time in Arizona.  She graduated from Palo Verde High School with the class of 1978.

Following high school, Yvonne took off to California and enrolled in the San Diego Technical Welding School.  It was there she met David Spicer.  The couple moved to Elvaston, IL in 1979, then to Montrose, IA, and later to Ames, IA.  They were married in a simple, but beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends on December 26, 1982.  Yvonne worked welding and waitressing jobs to put Dave through school.  In 1990, the couple moved to Post Falls, ID and Yvonne took a job in Spokane fabricating stoves and wheelchairs.  In 1998, the couple moved to their home near St. Maries where Yvonne established Blue Moon Originals, a very successful leather business she ran for 30 years.  She made purses, wallets, holsters, chaps, coin purses, and vests just to name a few things.

David passed away in July of 2013, but Yvonne was blessed with a second chance at love when she met Paul Plett through mutual friends.  The couple had an instant connection, and their first “date” was taking Paul’s bike to Sturgis; there is nothing like bonding on a 5000-mile road trip.  The couple were together for over 8 years before marrying in a small intimate wedding in July 2023 at their home.

Yvonne was artsy and extremely talented.  She enjoyed and appreciated art from a young age.  Her heart belonged in Idaho, and she loved nature and being outside.  If you couldn’t find her on the golf course, the mountains, or in her garden, she was out enjoying a ride on the back of Paul’s bike.  She felt blessed when her sister Therese whom she considered one of her best friends was able to move to St. Maries to be closer to her.  Yvonne was sassy, spunky, and full of energy; she will be dearly missed by all who were privileged to know her.

Yvonne is survived by her husband Paul at their home in St. Maries; stepson Jason (Jenny) Plett of Glendale, AZ; siblings Maria Nugent of Springerville, AZ, Pat Nugent of Albuquerque, AZ, Cecilia Jacobs of Tucson, AZ, and Therese Nugent of St. Maries; 3 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Mary Nash and Michael Nugent.

A celebration to honor Yvonne will be held next summer.
