Obituary of Michael Emerson McGovern Sr.
Michael Emerson McGovern Sr. (72) resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at Sacred Heart Medical Center on October 31, 2023. He was born to Terry and Violet (Verna), (Griner) McGovern on March 6, 1951, in Wallace, ID. Mike grew up in the Silver Valley. He attended school in Kellogg, Pinehurst, and Kootenai.
In March of 1969, Mike enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps where he obtained his GED. He was then trained to be an Electrician in electric-motor repair. When he was honorably discharged, Mike returned to Boise, ID where he met and married the mother of his children Betty. They made their home in Osburn, ID., had 3 children, Bonnie, Michael JR., Christopher (Troy). In the Silver Valley where he was a miner and logger. Due to an accident Mike had to retire early, but that didn’t slow him down. He met his companion of over 20 years Maggie Lane. The couple followed Mike’s mother to Santa, ID. Where he spent the last of his years
Mike loved spending time outdoors, had a green thumb, the mountains, rockhounding, fishing, hunting, wood and carving.
Mike is survived by his companion Maggie Lane of St. Maries; children Bonnie McGovern, Michael McGovern Jr., Christopher (Troy) McGovern; siblings Carl McGovern, Kaulene, William (Bill), Jim, Wes, Ronald, Glenda, Terry Jr., and Gordon. Grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Military honors will be presented to Mike at a later date.
