Obituary of Alfreda J. Ferguson

Alfreda J. Ferguson (91) longtime Santa, ID resident passed away at Valley Vista Care Center on January 4, 2024.  She was born to Victor and Edna May Peterson on July 15, 1932, in Wakefield, MI.  Freda grew up in Wakefield until the age of 13 when she moved to Flint, MI to live with her aunt. 

At the age of 13, she attended beauty school, and in 1949 she married Leslie Ahonen.  The couple made their home in Wakefield where 4 of her children were born.  She was a homemaker and stayed home to take care of her children.  Leslie was killed in a mining accident in 1963.  Freda married Adolf Ahola in 1964, and that marriage ended in a divorce.  In December 1966 she married George Kremposki at the Wakefield VFW Hall.  She had known George since early childhood.  The couple moved to Santa, ID on June 7, 1967, and in the early 1970’s she obtained her GED and acquired her certification as a nurse assistant and went to work for Valley Vista.  In 1981 Freda went to work for Benewah Community Hospital as a Receptionist, retiring in 1993.  George died in 1999, but she found love once again when she married Leonard Ferguson on August 26, 2000, in Santa.  Leonard and Freda became active in the American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary.  Leonard died in November 2010, but as fate would have it, she joined her life together with Alvin Albert in 2011. 

Freda enjoyed playing Bunco and BINGO.  She was a member of the Upriver Bible Church and the Clearwater Community Church, now known as the Emida Community Church.  She was also a member of the St. Maries Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Fernwood Ladies Aid, and was active with the Fernwood Senior Center.  Freda leaves behind traditions and a legacy that will continue to be carried out in generations to come. 

Freda is survived by her companion Alvin Albert now of Moscow, ID; children Jean Ranta of Michigan, Judith May Melloon of St. Maries, ID, John (Becky) Ahonen of Santa, ID, Amy Ahonen (Santiago Hernandez) of Helena, MT, and George (Fern) Kremposki of Burbank, WA; siblings Margaret Ragan and Roberta Pedrin of Wakefield, MI; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren- 5 great-great grandchildren and 2 on the way; numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husbands Leslie Ahonen, George Kremposki, and Leonard Ferguson; siblings Barbara Linn, Loretta Waterman, Victor Peterson, and Karen Pedrin; daughter Bonnie Ahola; grandson-in-law Nick Franz; and great-granddaughter Peyton Hutchison. 

A memorial service will be on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Upriver Bible Church in Fernwood, ID.  A gathering of family and friends to share a meal will follow at the Fernwood Senior Center.
