Obituary of Victor A. Neff

Victor Arnold Neff (96) died Feb. 6, 2010 at Valley Vista where he had resided for the past few months. The family would like everyone to know that there was a right way and a wrong way and a Vic Neffs way and that's just the way it was! Vic was born July 22, 1913 in Nickwall, Montana, To Floyd and Bessie Neff. The first few years of his life he lived on a homestead there. When he was three they moved to Couer D' Alene, Idaho where his father was a carpenter. Not happy with doing this they moved back to Nickwall to farm. After the grasshoppers took all their crops and left the land unusable the whole family including the Grandparents moved west again only this time to the Calder and Big Creek area where they homesteaded and logged. Vic went to school in Calder, later his family moved to St. Maries and bought a home in Milltown and he attended school at the old Lincoln School until he was 13. Going to School one morning he had to wait for the train to cross the tracks and decided that working was better than going to School so he rode the train to Clarkia and got a job there working for a logger and was a hard worker all the rest of his life cutting 18 cord of wood at the age of 95. On dec.18, 1935 he married Nettie Barden and lived in Riverdale where his two daughters were born and in 1945 moved to Port Angeles, wa. Where he worked in a paper mill. His son was born there and in 1950 moved back to St. Maries to go back to logging. He was divorced from Nettie in 1952 and later Married Lois Thompson in 1972 and they resided in PostFalls until they retired and traveled in the winter and spent his summers mowing lawns and taking care of yard work for many of his friends. His wife Lois died in 2001. Vic is survived by two daughters Patty Boggs of Calder and Valerie Shaver of St. Maries one son Steve Neff of St. Maries.
