Obituary of Maxine Louvell Treloar

Maxine Louvella Treloar (95) long time resident of St. Maries, ID and current resident of Spokane, WA passed away at home on June 24, 2016. She was born to Callie and Vella Hill in Applegate, OR on March 24, 1921. Maxine attended grade school in Applegate and graduated from Grants Pass High School with the class of 1938. Following high school she met and fell in love with Harry Treloar. Maxine followed Harry to Butte, MT where he was pursuing a career in mining. Maxine and Harry married on April 14, 1939 in Butte and started their family. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. In 1959 the family wanted to move to Seattle, WA because of the strikes going on in Montana. On the way to Seattle, they stopped in St. Maries, ID to drop off Maxine’s mother in-law Jessie. It was then Harry’s uncle told him he should work at the mill, so the family ended up staying in St. Maries instead of traveling onto Seattle which was originally planned. The family lived in apartments where the Smoke Shop now stands before moving to their home down on Railroad Avenue. At that time, Maxine went to work for Ray manning as a cashier and meat cutter in his butcher shop. After leaving the butcher shop, Maxine went to work for The Yardstick owned by Don and Olive Harvey as a seamstress. She also was the bookkeeper for Don’s lumber mill out in Fernwood, ID. The Yardstick eventually sold and Maxine worked as a seamstress from home. She retired in 1978 when her husband Harry also retired. The couple traveled in their retirement, and they loved to ride motor bikes, camp, and fish. Maxine loved gardening and loved her flowers. Her hands were always busy whether it was by knitting, crocheting, cross stitching, baking, or cooking. Maxine loved to spend time with her grandchildren and share her talents of baking in the kitchen with them. In 2009 Maxine moved to Spokane, WA to live with her daughter Carmen. Maxine is survived by her daughters Claudia (Harve) Balbi of St. Maries, ID and Carmen Murphy of Spokane, WA. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and 5 nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry Treloar, brothers Lester Hill and Calvin Hill, and nephew Randall Hill. A memorial service will be held July 23, 2016 11:00 am at the Community Presbyterian Church in St. Maries, ID. A gathering of family and friends to share a meal will follow at the church.
