Obituary of Wilma Alice Banderob

Wilma Alice Banderob (77) longtime St. Maries area resident, died Nov. 5, 2016 at her home. She was born Jan. 16, 1939 to Reinald and Alice (Spracklen) Schierman in St. Maries, ID. The family moved to Virgie, KY when Wilma was 6 years old. She then lived in Columbus, OH until she returned to St. Maries as a teenager. Wilma married George Stratton Sr. in 1955 in St. Maries, and the marriage produced three children Mary, Charlene, and George Jr. Wilma and her family lived wherever George’s military career took them. She returned to St. Maries with her children when George went to Vietnam. He was killed in an automobile accident in the Philippines in 1965. Wilma and Lawrence Banderob joined their two families together when they were married on June 4, 1965 in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. They made their home in Plummer, ID before moving to Hells Gulch in 1969. Wilma worked as a cook most all of her life. She was a partner in Granny’s Pantry, worked for the Apple Tree Café, and Bud’s Drive-in. She also worked for her friend Sally Asbury as a cook at the Handi-Corner for 14 years. Her last job was managing the Gem State Grill, and she worked there until February of this year. Wilma was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Maries and the St. Maries Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking and was very famous for the pies she made. She also enjoyed working the Craft Fair at the Eagles Lodge. Wilma and Lawrence worked many years in the Grange kitchen at the Benewah Co. Fair. She enjoyed singing in her early years. Wilma was an “ever faithful” Seattle Seahawks and Mariners fan. Wilma is survived by her husband Lawrence at the family home. Her daughters Mary McClure of Colorado Springs, CO, Charlene (Russell) Pandina of Columbia Falls, MT, Crystal (Andy) LeCoultre of St. Maries and her sons George (Lynne) Stratton Jr. of Post Falls, ID, Dusty (Lisa) Banderob of Rathdrum, ID. and son Larry Banderob and daughter-in-law Sunshine Kremposki of Emida, ID. Wilma is also survived by brother’s Gary Schierman of Ohio, Charles Schierman of St. Maries and Don (Robin) Stratton of Everett, IL. , sisters Alice Adair (Frank) Hebert of Plummer, ID and Kathleen (Frank) Adams of St. Maries, Franky (Bob) Ross of LaPine, OR. and Nancy Hanna of Illinois. Also surviving are her uncle Jack Edwards of St. Maries, 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by grandson John McMunn, Brothers Leroy and Jack Schierman and sister Judy Miles and son-in-law Randy McClure. A celebration of Wilma’s life will be Friday, November 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge with Pastor Dale Harrison officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow services with a meal at the Lodge.
