Obituary of Lucille Hermiston

Lucille Hermiston (60) longtime resident of Worley, ID passed away on June 1, 2017 at home with her daughter Mabel.  She was born to Herman Zachary and Mary Rickman (Whaley) on November 15, 1956 in Spokane Washington.  As a child, Lucille grew up in St. Maries up the St. Joe River.  She later moved to Nespelem, WA where she married and started a family.  As a homemaker, she took care of her own home and helped care for her brother’s in-law as well.  She returned to St. Maries where she went to work at The Big Eddy to support her family.  Lucille moved to Worley, ID where she worked as a seamstress for the Coeur d’ Alene Tribe Cut n Sew program.  She also worked as a Pull Tab Clerk at the Coeur d’ Alene Tribal Casino.  A position she was proud of holding was a drug and alcohol counselor for the tribe, and she enjoyed this position very much.  Health problems forced her into retirement.

In 1990 she moved to Walla Walla, WA for a short time where she met her love Jose’ Espana.  The couple moved to Worley, ID where she was a home maker and she helped run LiL Boo’s Firework Stand on Highway 95.  Jose’ and Lucille married on December 28, 2011 in Worley, ID.  

Lucille enjoyed life in general.  She loved to play the machines and Bingo at the casino, she loved to sing karaoke, and loved to dance.  She also enjoyed watching older TV shows such as Bonanza and the Andy Griffith Show.  Most importantly, she loved her daughter and grandchildren as they were her world.  They will always remember her for her apple pie and head cheese.  Her daughter Mabel and her were best friends and did everything together.  They obtained their GED’s and continued on to Computer School together.  She loved her dogs they were her children and spending time with her family.  Lucille would spend a lot of time at yard sales and shopping second hand stores.  She used to enjoy picking up cans for recycle until she ran into a snake on one of her ventures.  She was a one of a kind lady and was loved very much by her family, she will be missed.

Lucille is survived by her husband Jose’ Espana at the family home; son Richard Hermiston of Worley, ID; daughters Mabel (Whaley) Arroyo and Crystal McCoy both of Worley, ID; sisters Carol Wesley of Worley, ID and Deanna Whaley of Coeur d’ Alene, ID; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her mother and step-father Mary and Bernard Whaley, father Herman Zachary, sisters Deanetta Janson and Doris Ponce, and brothers Bill Antelope and Jack Zachary.

Rosary will be recited Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 7:00 pm at the Evangeline Abraham Longhouse in DeSmet, ID.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 10:00 am at Evangeline Abraham Longhouse in DeSmet, ID with Fr. Robert Erickson S.J. celebrant.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries, ID.  A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the Evangeline Abraham Longhouse in DeSmet, ID.
