Obituary of Harold J. Bonds

Harold J. Bonds Sr. (81) longtime St. Maries resident , died December 29, 2011 at Coeur d' Alene, ID. He was born July 18, 1930 to Elmer and Nora Mae (Rogers) Bonds at Headrick, Oklahoma. He grew up throughout Oklahoma, where ever the family moved . He married Margie L. Baskett on May 19, 1951 at Lawton, OK. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1952 and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He moved to St. Maries in 1959 and went to work for the St. Maries Lumber Company. Other area mills he worked for included Edwards Mill and Broadfoot Mill. He became employed by Potlatch Corp. in the mid-1960's and worked in all departments of the mill. His final position was in maintenance when he retired in 1993. In his retirement, Harold enjoyed visiting the Coeur d' Alene Casino with his wife and Juanita. He also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, talking about the weather and he enjoyed fishing in his youth. Harold was a 50 plus year member of St. Maries Eagles Aerie # 2012. He is survived by his wife Margie at the family home. Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law Harold J. and Emmy Bonds Jr. of Medimont, ID, his daughter Juanita Jack and daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Kieth Bierman all of St. Maries and daughter Donna Downing of Spokane. Harold is also survived by brother James Bonds and wife Sharen of Coeur d' Alene, Brother's-in-law Jerry and wife Evelyn Wiersema of Lawton, OK and Bob Thatcher of St. Maries. He is also survived by sister Lillian Carson of Pinedale, CA and sister's-in-law Grace Nigh and husband John of St. Maries, Bertha Jackson of Lawton, OK and Shirley Williams of Grandfield, OK, Skip Bonds of Medical Lake, WA as well as 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter Sheila Bonds and brother Wayne Bonds. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 11:00 a. m. at Hodge Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Kopf officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery with a gathering of family and friends following at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge.
