Obituary of James Edward Cook
James Edward “Eddie” Cook (61) resident of Alder Creek, near St. Maries, ID died December 19, 2018 at Benewah Community Hospital.
Eddie was born May 14, 1957 to Asa and Shirley (Condrey) Cook in Lewiston, ID. He grew up in Juliaetta, ID. As a young man, he left school to farm, ranch and log. Eddie met Evelyn Sproul while she was babysitting for his great uncle and aunt Leonard and Lucy. They immediately fell in love and were married after three dates on August 11, 1990.
Eddie and Evelyn made their home in the Chicken Coop Apartments in Juliaetta. Eddie and Evelyn out grew the Coop and moved to a bigger home on the family’s ranch. The ranch was sold and they moved to be near Evelyn’s family up Alder Creek in the Benewah Valley near St. Maries.
Eddie started hauling logs when he was 18 years old. He also hauled grain into Montana. Eddie’s other interests were being a volunteer fire fighter and working with Search and Rescue. He also helped plow his neighbor’s farms.
Eddie loved playing pool and throwing darts. He was a “Jack of all trades”. He hauled logs for years. Fishing was his life. Everything else filled up his time until he could go fishing. He loved steelhead fishing and fishing for pike on Lake Chatcolet. Eddie also liked picking mushrooms.
Eddie had to know what the weather was doing, and he had to have the weather channel on all the time. His family called him a “weatherman” as he would call them with weather updates no matter where they lived.
Eddie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, St. Maries Ward.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn at the family home; sons Anthony Cook and Logan Cook both of St. Maries; daughters Kendra Willis of Orofino, ID, Selina Cook of Leland, ID, and Mariah Winsryg of Juliaetta. He is also survived by his father Asa Cook of Juliaetta, ID; 1 brother; 3 sisters; 14 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Shirley Cook, son Zachary Cook, and brother Timothy Cook.
Funeral Services will be Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Maries LDS Church with Bishop Timothy Grubham conducting. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery and a gathering of family and friends will follow back at the church.
