Obituary of Miles Douglas Cook

Miles "Doug" Cook (81) longtime Fernwood, ID resident, died Feb. 8th at his home in Fernwood from an apparent heart attack. He was born July 27, 1931 to Paul and Margaret (Reedy) Cook at Latah, WA. He grew up and attended schools in Spokane, WA. He graduated from High School there in 1948. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1951. He returned to Spokane and drove truck for his father. He married Joyce Yost on March 20, 1951 at Spokane where they lived for one year. In 1952, he move his family to Fernwood, ID. He worked for Tyson Creek Mill and Top Hat Lumber Co. at "Peanutville" near Fernwood. The company sold to Scott Paper Co. in the late 1960's and he continued to work for them as sawmill foreman. Doug retired in 1993. In his retirement, he worked part time driving dump truck for Benewah Co. and for Bud McCall at Idaho Crushing. His wife died in 2005. Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing, but he would always have good hunting stories to tell while hunting and fishing. Doug and his wife enjoyed traveling in their motor home to Arizona and Mexico. They also enjoyed camping where they were members of the Good Sams. Doug was also a Life Member of V.F.W. Post 889 of Coeur d' Alene, ID. Doug is survived by his son Paul Cook and son and daughter-in-law Rick and Sherry Cook all of Fernwood. Also surviving are his sister Helen Price of Spokane, WA, 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Harold and Paul "Jr. Cook. A graveside celebration of his life and committal will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating.
