Obituary of Richard Buster Dahlkey

Richard D. "Buster" Dahlkey (86) lifetime St. Maries, ID resident, died February 24, 2013 at St. Maries from Pneumonia. He was born December 20, 1926 to Jennings and Florence (Barden) Dahlkey at St. Maries, ID Buster grew up in Spokane, WA. Where he attended Rogers High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old . He served during the invasion of Okinawa. Buster was discharged in 1946 and returned to St. Maries. He began his career there working in the timber industry. He married Loretta Asbury on September 21, 1956 at Reno, NV. They made their home in Red Bluff, CA where he worked for Diamond International Paper Products as an equipment mechanic. He returned to St. Maries in 1960 and worked in the woods at Headquarters, ID. During this time, he coached little league baseball. He later worked for Sindt Logging as a sawyer and woods boss. Buster retired in 1992. Buster enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also was an avid bowler. He was a member of the St. Maries Men's Bowling Assn. And member of St. Maries V.F.W Post. He was also a former member of the St. Maries Eagles Lodge. Buster is survived by his wife at the family home on Meadowhurst. His son and daughter-in-law Larry and Joanna Dahlkey and daughters Cheryl Dahlkey Patton and daughter and son-in-law Jeanne and Tim Dean all of St. Maries, ID Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Jean Dahlkey. Graveside services and committal of his ashes will on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge.
