Obituary of Lucille Marie Nelson
Lucille Marie Nelson (92) lifetime resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at her home surrounded by her family on January 15, 2020. She was born to James and Flora (McMillan) Brebner on November 24, 1927 in St. Maries, ID. Lucille grew up in St. Maries and graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1946. Following high school, Lucille met Lester Nelson at a dance she attended in Plummer, ID. It was love at first sight, and the couple married on November 8, 1947 in St. Maries. The couple was blessed with 3 children.
Lucille went to work at Bud’s Burgers and their bakery. She later went to work at Safeway and Benewah Community Hospital. Once Lucille was blessed with grandchildren, she went to work for the St. Maries School District. This was a job she very much enjoyed.
Lucille was a member of the St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and Catholic Ladies. She was a very devoted member of her church who had a very strong faith. In her earlier years, she was part of the choir. She dedicated hours of volunteer work to the Catholic Ladies Bazaar and was well known for the crafts she donated. She decorated the church and took care of the linens. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister traveling to those who were not able to come to the church for communion.
A talented lady, Lucille loved card making, canning, sewing, reading, painting, and making porcelain dolls. Most of the clothes her children wore were made by her, and she also made doll clothes. All of her children’s friends and her grandchildren’s friends were always welcomed at her home, and they were treated just like part of her family. Many loving and fond memories were made in her home. She also enjoyed what the outdoors had to give especially camping, traveling, and picking huckleberries.
Lucille is survived by her daughters Mary Ann (Randy) Schwanz of Whitefish, MT and Paula Queener of St. Maries, ID, 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Andrea Nelson, brothers William Brebner, James Brebner, and John Brebner, and sisters Frances Stillmaker, Helen Marie Brebner, and Mary Carolyn Brebner.
