Obituary of Mildred M. Abrahamson

Former Plummer resident Mildred Marie (Millie) Abrahamson, 92, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus April 17th, 2013 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Mildred was born March 7th, 1921 in Baker, Oregon, the only child of James A. (Gus) Lawrence and Helen Elms Lawrence. Her mother died when Mildred was just 9 days old. She had loving relatives who helped her dad raise her until he remarried. Mildred recalled many fond memories of her childhood with George and Emma Nelson in Unity, Oregon. She attended schools in Fruitland, Idaho. On Nov. 23, 1938 she married John Dykema in New Plymouth, Idaho where they made their home on a small farm and began raising a family. John died in 1954. In Sept. 1954 Mildred married Walter Hoffman in New Plymouth. They divorced in 1961. Mildred moved to northern Idaho in 1965, earned a degree in cosmetology and ran her own beauty shop for several years in Plummer at which time she became known by her nickname, Millie. She later became a CNA and worked in nursing homes in Fairfield and Davenport, WA. until she retired in 1995. In 1978 she married Irvin Abrahamson of Plummer. The couple relocated to Ford, WA for a few years before settling back in the Plummer/Worley area. Irv preceded her in death in 2012. Millie was a hard worker who enjoyed gardening, farm animals, homemaking, cooking for her family, and reading, until her eyesight failed in later years. She was a loving mother and grandmother, always there to help her family in times of need. Millie is survived by and is greatly missed by sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Joann Dykema of New Plymouth, Idaho; John and Lee Dykema of Norfolk, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Jentina and Don Nelson of Payette, Idaho, and Paulina and Mike Freeburg of Plummer, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was always happy to hear about another new baby in the family. A graveside memorial service and celebration of Millie's life is planned for Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 a.m. at Park View Cemetery in New Plymouth, Idaho.
