Obituary of Dinah M. Holt
Dinah M. Holt (70) resident of Emida, ID passed away at Benewah Community Hospital on November 15, 2020. She was born to George and Elsie (Blevins) Groat on September 15, 1
950 in Cottage Grove, OR. Dinah grew up in the Springfield, OR area. She attended Thurston High School, where she met her high school sweetheart Charles “Chuck” Holt.
Chuck and Dinah married and started a family. As a young couple, they moved around quite a bit but stayed in Oregon. Aside from being a home maker, Dinah also went to work at one of the local lumber mills pulling green chain. Dinah’s marriage to Chuck ended in divorce, and she relocated to Alaska.
When Dinah got to Alaska, she started working as an Abalone Diver. She then worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator in road construction. Her work took her way up North Alaska and to South East Alaska. To be near her daughter, Dinah moved to Spokane, WA. She continued working as a Heavy Equipment Operator and drove water truck. She injured her back forcing her into an early retirement.
Once retried, Dinah found a piece of property in Emida, ID and she moved there. She loved the area and the seclusion of the small town. On her property she was able to take care of her 4 horses, dogs, and chickens which she loved. She had a green thumb and loved gardening. Dinah loved her grandchildren and had a special bond with each of them. She will be very missed by all of them.
Dinah is survived by her children Shawn (Michelle) Holt of Payette, ID, Shanna Holt (Saikou Jadama) of Tumwater, WA, and Scott Holt of Spokane, WA. Also surviving are her brothers James Groat and Wayne Rossman, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents.
