Obituary of Alvin Carroll Potts
Alvin Carroll Potts (92) resident of Coeur d’Alene, ID passed away at the Schneidmiller Hospice House on April 4, 2021. He was born to Russell and Ruth (Gower) Potts on June 3, 1928 in Tuskegee, OK. Alvin’s family left Oklahoma when he was just 2 months old. He grew up in Oregon and California. At the age of 16, he trained horses, and worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He attended school there during the war, and graduated high school in Cloverdale, CA.
Following high school, Alvin worked various jobs to support his family including 6 years at Shell Oil in Martinez, CA and construction jobs for over 40 years. He married LaViva Hulbert September 30, 1948; they had been married over 70 years when LaViva passed away in 2019. The couple were members of the Worley Community Church. They were grateful for all of the love and care shown by their church family.
Alvin is survived by his son (Carroll) Ryan Potts, and daughter Linda Schaefer, as well as two great-grandsons, David and Justin whom they raised as sons. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife LaViva, and siblings Don Potts, Lewis Potts, and Wanda Asbill.
A private service was held.
