Obituary of Kevin Ivan Wilks

Kevin Ivan Wilks (78) former resident of Post Falls, ID passed away at Benewah Community Hospital on June 18, 2021. He was born to Ivan and Byrl (Taylor) Wilks on December 23, 1942, in Asotin, WA. Kevin grew up in Emida, ID attending elementary school there and also attending St. Maries High School. In 1957 he was active raising and showing cattle in 4H holding the office of President. He had earned quite a few badges for safety, stewardship, and leadership. Around his sophomore year, Kevin left school to work on his family’s farm. The Wilk’s family received an award for their contributions to the timber industry. On August 1, 1962, Kevin married Dorene Thomas. The couple made their home in Emida and had 3 children. While his children were growing up, Kevin was a logger to support the family. Once his children left home, he ran a farm growing hay and raising cattle. He and Dorene divorced in 1980. Kevin later married Helen Cowin on April 6, 1986. The couple moved to Princeton where Kevin continued to raise cattle and hay. He retired in November of 2007, and he and Helen moved to Post Falls, ID. Health issues kept them home, but they genuinely enjoyed each other’s company. When they were able to, they enjoyed many trips into Canada, and in his earlier years, Kevin enjoyed fishing and hunting. Kevin is survived by his children Diana (Rick) West of Clarkston, WA, Glenna (George) Hendrix of Sandpoint, ID; brother Leonard (Rhonda) Wilks of Emida, ID; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen; his parents; son Paul Wilks; and siblings Emmalene Curtis, Richard Wilks, and Irene West. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
