Obituary of Lyle C. Turner

Lyle C. Turner (85) longtime St. Maries, ID resident, died June 15, 2013 at St. Maries following a sudden heart attack. Lyle was born March 23, 1928 to Fred and Julia (Knaack) Turner at Aitkins, MN. He grew up at Round Butte, MT. He married Eula Wright in 1946. He worked for Walton's Plywood Mill in Everett, WA. During this time, he served with the United States Marine Corps. Reserve. He was discharged before the start of the Korean War. Lyle later went to work for Columbia Veneer in Kalama, Wa. He was divorced in 1966. Shortly thereafter, he received a phone call from Darrell Brown, whom he had previously worked with, notifying him of an opening with the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch. He moved to St. Maries and his first position at the mill was a "stock wrestler" in the dry end. He married Mary K. Mauro on October 8, 1966 at St. Maries. After nine months on the job, Lyle was promoted to Fork Lift operator. He retired in 1993 as Day Shift dry end fork lift operator. Lyle enjoyed hunting and his gun collection. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching vegetables grow there. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lyle is survived by his wife Mary at the family home in St. Maries. Also surviving are his son Gary Turner of Longview, WA and daughter Gwen Johnson of Castle Rock, WA and daughter and son-in-law Marsha and Rick Lance of Grangeville, ID. Lyle is also survived by brother Ralph Turner of Kamiah, ID, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter Lorri Lamb and brothers Donald and Robert Turner. Gravside funeral services will be Friday, June 21, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. At Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Devon Johnson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the St. Maries Elks Lodge.
