Obituary of Kenneth N. Cummings

Kenneth N. Cummings, longtime St. Maries area resident, died June 19, 2013 at Kootenai Medical Center , Coeur d' Alene, ID. He was born October 30, 1936 to Kenneth R. and Delila (Smalley) Cummings at Penn Yan, NY. Ken grew up at Watkins Glen, NY and graduated from High School there with the class of 1954. The following year, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Saudi Arabia. He was discharged in 1958. He was married to Sally L. Cummings and the marriage produced five children. They were later divorced. He was employed by International Salt at Watkins Glenn when he met and married Patricia Jones . They were married in the late 1960's. They traveled westward and Ken did odd jobs to support them. He moved to St. Maries in 1967 and went to work for the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch Corp. He worked as a plywood grader. His wife died in November of 1980. He married Pamela Towle on October 29, 1981 at Coeur d' Alene. They made their home in St. Maries. He retired from Potlatch in 2000. Ken enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Kyle, Brodie and Mason. Ken is survived by his wife at the family home in St. Maries. Also surviving are his sons James Cummings of Connecticut, and John Olson of St. Maries, daughters Lynnbeth Cummings of Schenectady, NY, Leighanne Scott and Tracy Hughes both of Corning, NY and Michelle Olson of Pinehurst, ID. Also surviving are brothers Lowell Cummings of Watkins Glen, NY, Del Cummings of Burdett, NY , Tim Cummings of Beaver Dam, NY, sisters Reetha Shumway of Watkins Glen, NY and Edie Rider of Montour Falls, NY. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son Phillip Cummings, both his parents, brother John Cummings and sister MaryAnn Perry. At Ken's request, no services will be planned.
