Dear Martha and Judy,
I was late in hearing about Fred. Fred and I spent a lot of good times tromping the woods looking for cedar. Even in the rain or sloppy snow up Fitzgerald or Falls creek we never considered it a bad day. Once, Fred, Dewey Arrhenious and I were scouting for cedar when a gust of wind brought the smell of rotten meat. We followed it up and there hung four quarters of an elk; no head! Who ever shot the bull just took out the head after they figured the meat was too heavy and too far from the road to pack out. We cut the meat down so it could rot on the ground.
Fred called one day and said he had one big cedar tree in Falls Creek that I should see before he fell it. It indeed was a large one. He cut out a 10" X 14"" X 6' piece for me that I placed as the mantle above our wood stove; lots of memories.
Jack Johnston and I got a "demonstration" ride in his helicopter. Fred was just learning how to operate it at the time. I told him I had been in lots of Marine Corps helicopters that ended with bullet holes appearing as we flew so don't fly over enemy territory! He said "Watch this." and put it in Auto Rotation which simulates an "easy" crash landing. Fred's would have been disqualfied. We bounced up about four feet!
I often recall those times and fortunate to have experienced them. Fred was special and then so are those Mueller girls!!
We pray for you.

As a surprise to me on my 16th birthday my grandparents, Harry and Pauline Woodbury, made arrangements for Freddie to pick me up in his helicopter in our driveway. I was in shock as this helicopter flew over Parker Pass and kept dropping lower until it was right over us and landed. Freddie jumped out and told me Happy Birthday and to get in. Granny came out of the old ranch and told me it was my birthday surprise to go flying with Freddie. Well I was (and still am in a way) a big chicken and refused, which at my ripe old age now, regret very much. Fifty years later, whenever I saw or talked to Freddie, he always reminded me of that time.
An awesome man and good friend to our family, Freddie will be greatly missed. RIP and fly with the angels!
