Obituary of Bobby L. Swallows

Bobby L. Swallows (78) resident of St. Maries, ID died June 27, 2013 at Hospice House of North Idaho. He was born October 3, 1934 to Edward and Mary (Dodson) Swallows at Russellville, Kentucky. Bob grew up in Clarksville, IN. As a young man, he worked for a shirt factory in New Albany, IN. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1957. His initial duty station was in Spokane, WA at Geiger Field. His military career took him across the continental U.S. As well as duty stations overseas in Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan. Bob married Betty Simons on November 29, 1958 at Spokane, WA. She traveled with him to the continental duty stations. He retired from the military in 1980. They then moved to St. Maries, ID. Bob worked as Maintance Supervisor for Valley Vista Care Center. He also worked in the pro-shop for the St. Maries Bowling Lanes. Bob retired in 1996. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and woodworking. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. Bob is survived by his wife Betty at the family home. He is also survived by son's and daughters-in-law Steve and Laurie Swallows of Port Orchard, WA, Douglas and Terri Swallows of Stevensville, MT and Keith and Nichole Swallows of St. Maries, ID. Also surviving are his brother Harvey Swallows of Golconda, IL and sisters Rena Striegel of Floyd Knobs, IN, Clara Swallows of Concord, N.C. And Arlene Bottorff of Jeffersonville, IN, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren as well as 5 nieces and 8 nephews. He was preceded in death by brother Edward Swallows and sisters Joyce Farris and Patty Colgazier. Graveside funeral services will be Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. At Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries with Pastor Darin Million officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by St. Maries American Legion Post 25 and the Idaho National Guard. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the home of Ray and Sarah Haeg 85 W. Tamara Lane, Worley, ID. The family suggests memorials to Hospice House of North Idaho 9493 N.
