Obituary of Alyce L. Broyles

Alyce L. Smith Broyles, beloved wife, mother and grandmother died June 25, 2013. Alyce was born April 3, 1927 in St. Maries, Idaho, the youngest of five children to Charles and Hazel Smith. She has been preceded in death by her parents and each of her siblings: Edward, Elda, Jimmy and Mary Jean. Fortunate to grow up in a loving and positive family, Alyce tirelessly sacrificed and supported her own family. The impact of her loss will leave a void for each of us. Alyce grew up in St. Maries and graduated from St. Maries High School with the class of 1945. She then went on to graduate from Eastern Washington Teacher's College. Mrs. Broyles began teaching at Heyburn Elementary School prior to and following her marriage to Bob Broyles. They were married on August 22, 1948 at St. Maries. Although raising a family replaced full time teaching, she remained active in the district and served on the School Board. Alyce was very active in the Presbyterian Church and served as director of the Sunday School program for twenty-five years. She was an active member of the Chapter AN PEO, American Legion Auxiliary, Elk's Ladies and sang with various Sweet Adeline choruses and Quartets for over thirty years. A gifted musician, teacher, wife, and parent will make it very difficult to assimilate her loss. Alyce is survived by her husband of 64 years, her son Jim and her daughter Leslee Broyles Adams. Also surviving are her grandson Jacob Adams, her granddaughter Alicia Everingham and two great grandaughters Layla and Taylin. Services are pending with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family request in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made to Hospice of Benewah Co. 702 College Ave., the PEO Scholarship program c/o Kathy Davis 3058 Cherry Creek Road. or the American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Unit #25, 1112 S. 2nd Street. A memorial concert will be held in her honor July 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church 1100 College Ave. in St. Maries.
