Obituary of Harry E. Kennon
Harry E. Kennon (91) resident of St. Maries, ID , died August 22, 2013 at St. Maries following a massive heart attack. He was born January 21, 1922 to Howard and Grace (Sanders) Kennon at Doniphan MO. he grew up in Doniphan and graduated from Grandin High School with the class of 1941. Harry married Virgie Thompson July 19, 1942 at Grandin, Mo. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy one month later. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater of War. He was discharged IN 1945 and recalled Iin 1950 for the Korean War serving until 1951. Following his discharge, Harry returned to Doniphan, MO and worked for a local Chevrolet dealership as a mechanic. In 1952, he moved to Emida, ID where he and his brother Bud formed Kennon Brothers Logging. They operated the business for 29 years logging for Anderson-Vance Lumber Mill and Edwards Investments. After he and his brother dissolved the business in 1981, he went to work for Edwards Investments driving lumber truck as well as various jobs around the mill. Harry retired in 1987. Harry was a member of the Benewah Co. Sr. Citizens. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards and board games with friends and family. He and Virgie enjoyed prospecting and metal detecting together. In 1985, Harry won second place in the Nevada state gold panning competition in Sparks, NV. He enjoyed traveling through the southeast and visiting Nome, Alaska and a 14 day excursion of British Columbia. Harry is survived by his wife of 71 years Virgie at the family home. His daughter and son-in-law Eugenia and John Swendener of Coeur d' Alene, ID Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son Thomas Kennon, brothers Perry and Vernon Burlison and Howard "Bud" Kennon and sisters Violet and Dorothy Burlison and Clarice Price and two grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, August 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Hodge Funeral Home with Pastor Nancy Goodwin officiating.. A gathering of family and friends will follow services at the Comm. Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. The family suggests memorials to either Benewah Co.
