Obituary of Evelyn P. Woods
Our beloved Mother and Grandmother passed away August 23, 2013 in St. Maries, ID after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. All who knew her knew of her elegance and devotion and that she was a special person. She will be dearly missed. Evelyn Patra Woods was born December 2, 1924 to Peter and Cebenia (Anderson) Peterson at Idaho Falls, ID. Evelyn grew up in Idaho Falls and attended Idaho Falls High School where she played flute and Piccolo in the High School Military Marching Band. She graduated from there with the class of 1943. Following graduation, Evelyn served as a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Northwestern States Mission from 1945 to 1946. Upon her return, she went to work for a music store in Idaho Falls. Evelyn married Raymond Woods on March 23, 1948 at Idaho Falls. She lived in Dillon, MT and Salmon, ID before moving to Ogden Utah where her husband's employment took the family. In 1959, the family moved to Tacoma, WA. In 1967, she and her husband purchased a family berry farm business. During this time, she and her husband purchased Teamsters Pharmacy and she assisted her husband as a Pharmacy Tech. She retired in 1998 and moved to St. Maries. Her husband died in 2009. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. An accomplished musician, Evelyn enjoyed playing the organ, piano and flute. She was also an avid reader. Evelyn served as organist, until March of this year, for the St. Maries Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she was a member. Her special talent of playing by ear was an impromptu delight to many throughout the years, if you could hum a few bars, she could play it. Her children were able to take her on some very special vacations with them including a cruise to Hawaii and a trip to Washington D.C. Evelyn loved to dance and watch Western movies. She also had a great love for her family and her pets. Evelyn is survived by her sons and daughters in law John and Kristine Woods of Tacoma, WA and James and Marie Woods of Graham, WA.
