A Plummer, Idaho lifetime resident, Sandra Bernice Freeburg passed away in Coeur d’Alene Idaho at the age of 88 on March 20, 2023.
Sandra was born in Plummer Idaho to Elmer Carl and Kathleen (Harris) Storms on Sept. 9, 1934, the eldest of their three daughters. She attended Plummer schools where she was active in many extra-curricular activities. She graduated from Plummer High School in 1952.
She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas R. Freeburg on June 23, 1952. They made their home in the Plummer area where they raised their three children, Sue, Mike, and Molly. Sandra was a hardworking farm wife and mother who had many talents. She was a good cook and in her younger days prepared and served hot lunches for hay and harvest crews delivering them to the fields. She was an early member of the Plummer Grange, volunteered as a 4-H leader and other community organizations. Her home was always open to help family and friends in need. Sandra & Tom were influential in shaping the lives of several young family members.
Sandra went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in 1966 in Plummer where she was a clerk; then later took on the rural route as a 3rd generation mail carrier until her retirement in 1996. She never had a car accident in all her years of driving the 100 mile daily mail route. After her retirement she and Tom enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends.
Sandra loved her family dearly and was especially proud of all of her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, and her parents. She is survived by her children: Sue Millhorn of Coeur d’Alene, Mike (Paulina) of Worley, and Molly (Kevin) Griffin of Sammamish WA; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Peggy Blackburn and Carla Hendrickx of Plummer; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She is missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Sandra’s life will be held on Sat. May 13th, time and place to be announced at a later date. The family would like to express appreciation to Luis Guzman, Hospice of North Idaho and the Plummer Gateway Ambulance. Donations to either organization would be welcome.
