Obituary of James William Schow
James William Schow (79) passed away May 11, 2023 at his home in Plummer. He was born Oct. 22, 1943 to Glenn and Kathleen Land-Schow of Los Angeles, CA.
Jim grew up in Plummer, ID where he was raised by his uncle and aunt Charles and Florence Yarber, and resided in the same home where he passed away.
Jim graduated from Plummer High School with the Class of 1961 where he was recognized at his graduation for having perfect attendance throughout his entire twelve years, never missing a day of school. After graduating Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964 where he served as a Sonarman aboard the USS Dynamic MSO-432 in Vietnam. He was discharged in 1970 and returned to Plummer.
Jim then married Judith Reynolds on Oct. 15, 1971. They then made their home in Plummer where he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. Jim later worked for the City of Plummer before going to work for the Plummer-Worley School District as a custodian in the mid 1980’s where he retired around 2010. After just a few short years of retirement his wife Judith passed away in the fall of 2014, where his dog Festus became his world.
Jim enjoyed spending his time being outdoors and adding to his various collections. He was a rockhound, collecting garnets and other types of rocks. He also enjoyed gardening and taking long walks. As an avid runner, Jim ran ½ Marathons, marathons, smaller races, and for many years completed Bloomsday in Spokane. Along with Jim's hobbies, he was also a member of Plummer American Legion Post # 69.
Jim is survived by his daughter and her finance’ Misty Rasmussen and Doug Fitzthum of Spokane Valley and his two grandchildren Alexander and Riley Rasmussen. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Mike Schow.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at a later date, to be announced at Evergreen Cemetery in Plummer.
