Obituary of Susan C. Martin
Susan C. Martin (64) longtime resident of St. Maries, ID passed away at Kootenai Health on September 25, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to James and Thea Baugh on April 9. 1959 in Wurzburg, Germany. Sue grew up with her father in the military, so the family moved around quite a bit when she was younger. She spent time in Spokane where she attended Mead High School before moving to St. Maries, ID. At the age of 16 and a Junior in high school, she met and married the love of her life, Cub Martin, and in 1977 she graduated from St. Maries High School.
Following high school, Sue worked for Bud’s Drive Inn. In 1983 the Martin family moved to Alaska, and Sue stayed home to run the household and take care of her children. They returned to St. Maries a year later and made their forever home out on the river in Meadowhurst. She then went to work for Hughes Home Center working as a cashier and on the floor in parts. After 17 years with the hardware store, she changed careers and went to work for US Bank. She spent 5 years with US Bank before going to work for the Benewah County Sheriff’s Department as a Dispatcher. Sadly, Sue suffered a stroke in 2012 and ended up having to quit working all together because of her health. She kept up with the times and had a couple social media accounts. She loved keeping in touch with friends and family on Facebook and was always entertained snapchatting her granddaughters and playing with the different filters.
Sue’s family was the most important thing to her on this earth. She loved her children, and when her grandchildren came along, she fell in love, never missing important moments in their lives or sporting events. Hosting family get togethers and holidays, specifically Thanksgiving and Christmas was a labor of love, and her family felt extra special when she cooked birthday dinners. Anyone with a birthday got whatever they requested for dinner, and her specialty in the house was melt in your mouth friend chicken and gravy. Sue liked watching the cooking channel, and her boys learned how to cook just by spending time with her in the kitchen. She also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and rescuing dogs. She rescued several over the years providing a very loving home. Sue collected black and white cows, enjoyed spending time with her friends in “Birthday Club”, and playing turkey BINGO.
Sue is survived by her husband Cub at their home in St. Maries; children Bryan (Marlana) Martin and Danny (Kaila) Martin both of St. Maries; grandchildren Jayden, Shelby, Keagan, Daimeyn, and Brydon; siblings Patty (Ron) Ellingson, Bill Baugh, Bob Baugh, and Mike (Christie) Baugh; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Stan Framstead, and brother Dave Baugh.
Although there will be no services for Sue, the family suggests anyone who wants to make a memorial contribution to do so to Hospice of North Idaho at 2290 W Prairie Ave, Coeur d’ Alene, ID 83815 or Hopes Haven at 53 Robinson Lane, St. Maries, ID 83861.
