Obituary of JoAnn Thaut

JoAnn Thaut (89) resident of Harrison Flats, passed away on October 19,2023 in Post Falls, ID.

JoAnn was born July 24,1934 to Alex and Sara (Koch) Werner in Ritzville, WA.  She grew up in Ritzville and graduated from Ritzville High School with the class of 1952. JoAnn met Bud Thaut while he was working at a ranch, and she was working as an operator for GTE.  They were married at the Hitching Post at State Line.

Bud and JoAnn made their home in St. Maries where they rented a house.  They later bought their home on Harrison Flats. She was a homemaker and raised her family there.  JoAnn worked in the Licensing department for Benewah County before transferring to the Auditors office.  She worked for the Benewah Co. Auditor for 30 years before retiring.  She and Bud enjoyed being snowbirds in the winter at their home in Yuma, AZ.  Bud passed away April 2023.

JoAnn was a member of the St. Maries Nazarene Church and the TOPS organization of Harrison, ID.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and growing flowers. She fed hummingbirds with her many feeders around the property.  JoAnn enjoyed her involvement in her church and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially at big family celebrations; she enjoyed cooking big dinners for them.

She is survived by her son Greg (Cheri) Thaut of St. Maries; daughter Janel Roe of Henderson, TN; and her brother Dale (Barbara) Werner of Austin, TX.  Also surviving are 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Bud, daughter Rhoda Thaut and brothers Jimmy and Robert Werner. A Memorial Service will be on November 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at the St. Maries Nazarene Church.
