Obituary of Earl E. Derry
OBITUARY Earl E. Derry (78) lifetime St. Maries area resident died October 30, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was born March 6, 1935 to George and Minerva (Yunkon) Derry at Tekoa, WA. He grew up at Sanders and Santa, ID He attended St. Maries High School. As a young man, he worked in the woods with his father and brother. Earl also worked for Vanderpoel Farms. He married Diane Crowford in 1958 at St. Maries. They were divorced in 1961. In 1962, he married Mona McLaughlin. Earl worked for the St. Maries Lumber Co. until it burned down in the early 1960's. He was involved in the construction of the new mill built by Potlatch Co. He worked for the Company in various aspects of mill operations. He retired in 1997. While working at the mill, he also had a 360 acre farm on Harrison Flats where he raised dairy cows. Earl later sold the farm and purchased 10 acres near the Harrison Junction of State Hwy 3 N. He was divorced in 1990 and moved to St Maries, ID. Earl enjoyed woodworking in his shop. He loved carpentry and building things. One of his favorite projects was constructing bee hives and running a honey bee operation to harvest honey. Earl was past president of the Harrison EMT's and served many years volunteering to help people. He was also a former member of the Benewah Co. Sheriff's Posse. Earl is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Wanda Derry of Talent, OR and Rodney and Donna Sines of Princeton, ID. His brother and wife Lawrence and Jackie Derry of St. Maries and sister Dolores Reynolds of Princeton, ID. Seven Grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother Harold Derry and sister Virginia "Tiny" Sines. Viewing will be Monday , November 4, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hodge Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery with Deacon Floyd Turner officiating.
